The West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress (WBSSTC) is conducted as a two day annual event starts on National Science Day every year, provides a forum for interaction and deliberation, review of the present status of R&D efforts and to formulate strategies for better utilization of scientific and technical manpower for the overall development of the State of West Bengal. The event also provides a platform for encouraging talented young scientists of West Bengal to read and published their papers in vernacular.
The WBSSTC covers technical sessions, invited lectures by eminent scientists, research presentation by young researchers, memorial lectures, and children's science session. Talented young researchers are honoured with 'Best Paper Awards' given to selected papers presented under different subject areas. Presentations of State Awards are also an important event of this Congress. Exhibition on S&T with participation of major R&D institutions of West Bengal also form part of the science session event.
Besides holding the State congress at the Science City, Kolkata on the National Science Day, 2017, this year three Regional Science Congresses, each in Jalpaiguri division, Burdwan division and Presidency division will be held in the month of November, 2016 having duration of one and half day, to ensure participation from all regions of West Bengal.
Selected participants in each group from the Regional Science Congresses will qualify to participate in the 24th West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress to be held at the Science City Kolkata during 28th February to 1st March, 2017.
