Objective & Scope

Objectives :

  • To encourage the Scientific Temperament in West Bengal;
  • To popularise Science in the Vernacular ;
  • To identify the present state of Scientific Research in West Bengal;
  • To synergise Scientific Research with Societal Needs;
  • To provide a forum for the flow of Scientific Ideas from Regional to State Level;
  • To encourage the Young Scientists in Scientific Research.

Scope :

The West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress (WBSSTC) is conducted as a two day annual event starts on National Science Day every year, provides a forum for interaction and deliberation, review of the present status of R&D efforts and to formulate strategies for better utilization of scientific and technical manpower for the overall development of the State of West Bengal. The event also provides a platform for encouraging talented young scientists of West Bengal to read and published their papers in vernacular.

The WBSSTC covers technical sessions, invited lectures by eminent scientists, research presentation by young researchers, memorial lectures, and children’s science session. Talented young researchers are honoured with ‘Best Paper Awards’ given to selected papers presented under different subject areas. Presentations of State Awards are also an important event of this Congress.

Besides holding the State congress at the Science City, Kolkata, this year three Regional Science Congresses, each in Western, Southern and Northern Regions of the State will be held in the month of December, 2019 having duration of two days, to ensure participation from all regions of West Bengal.

Selected participants in each discipline from the Regional Science Congresses will be requested to participate in the 27th West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress to be held at the Science City Kolkata during 28th February to 29th February 2020.
